Bowen Yang Is the Iceberg Who Sunk the Titanic But He’s So Much More Than That
Tour de force. Bravura. Groundbreaking. Redefining the game. These are words that can describe the Titanic Iceberg ’s new 12-track, no skips “hyperpop EDM nu-disco fantasia” album Music, and they also describe Bowen Yang’s performance on last night’s Saturday Night Live Weekend Update as said iceberg that sunk the Titanic. Yang plays the infamous inanimate object like a former reality star, both milking his former notoriety for sustained pop cultural relevance while trying not to be defined by it. “That was a really long time ago. I’ve done a lot of reflecting to try and move past it. It’s one very small part me, but there’s so much going on beneath the surface that you can’t see.” Spoken like a true iceberg. Iceberg feels sidelined by Colin Jost’s line of questions about sinking the Titanic, snapping, “I think my publicist was very clear. I’m not here to talk about the sinking.” But when he finally gets into it, it’s like the world’s greatest I Don’t Think So Honey : “First of all, you came to where I live and you hit me. It was midnight. I was chilling. And then I hear this Irish cacophony behind me.” Emmy for that line delivery alone! “And before I turn around and go, like, what? Half my ass is gone, which was my best feature. And I’m literally injured but all anybody cares about is that like 40 or 50 people died or whatever.” And don’t even get him started on why nobody’s pointing fingers at the water. As if the segment couldn’t get better, we even get to hear a ridiculous track off of the iceberg’s album. We beg Yang and writer Anna Drezen to bring this character back to talk about global warming. The possibilities! … [Read more...] about Bowen Yang Is the Iceberg Who Sunk the Titanic But He’s So Much More Than That

Then this royal recipe is the perfect thing – all courtesy of the Duchess of Cornwall 's son, food critic and writer Tom Parker Bowles . In his cookbook Let’s Eat: Recipes From My Kitchen Notebook , Tom shares his favourite childhood meals and includes his mother's roast chicken recipe! MORE: How to make the Queen's favourite lemon drizzle cake Loading the player... WATCH: Royal wedding cakes over the years Tom writes: "My wife swore that if she heard me mention this dish one more time, she’d shove it where the sun don’t beam. Well, words to that effect. Because this was such a staple of my youth, I roll it out any time anyone asks if my mother is a good cook – which is pretty much all of the time. "She is, although she was always less bothered with the cakes, puddings and pies side of things: anything that requires exact measurements. Which was fine by us. All my sister and I really wanted was Findus Crispy Pancakes and Ice Magic chocolate sauce. Sadly, we had to seek those illicit pleasures elsewhere." "This is a classic recipe, cooked in the top right-hand oven of the Aga. I’ve adapted it for normal ovens. My mother insists that chopping off that dangly bit above the cavity and putting it on top of the bird improves the flavour. As it releases about a ton of schmaltz, or chicken fat, I’d agree. "Buy the best chicken you can afford. Rather eat one decent free-range than four of those flabby imported beasts with all the depth of a puddle." During last night’s Olympic qualifying round for the men’s half-pipe, 19-year-old Slovenian snowboarder Tit Stante publicly stanned for Meek without saying a word. Following his run, he picked up his board and on the bottom was Sharpied a message for the rapper, but also, the Philadelphia justice system: #FreeMeekMill. Stante didn’t qualify, but he’s gold in our hearts. … [Read more...] about This Slovenian Olympic Athlete Deserves a Medal for Scribbling a Message to Meek Mill on His Snowboard
