  9. I was unable to even watch this entire movie. It is scratched and half way through the movie it stopped playing correctly. It just jumped all over. Horrible experience.

  10. This movie was received on time but when we played the movie it skipped and stopped frequently! We couldn’t really enjoy the movie as it kept stopping.

  14. I was flipping channels on cable one day and saw part of this movie. I enjoyed what I saw and decided to buy it on DVD. I found a used copy on Amazon and ordered it. The DVD arrived on time and in excellent condition. Before seeing this movie I didn’t think I’d be interested in it but it hooked me right away and it ended up being a movie I watched several times and bought the movies in this series that followed. It’s original, fun and entertaining.

  28. This film has been criticized for being a too literal translation, but personally, I appreciated that. This film was my first introduction into the world of Harry Potter, and I have to say, after watching this film, I was smitten. This is by far – my favorite Harry Potter film. The film was captivating, and I devoured the world presented. I had to read the books, after watching the film. Love the spectacle. Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall’s fortuitous and grievous discussion. The many owls attempting to deliver an invitation. Harry’s joy in the discovery that he is a wizard, awed by the wonders of Diagon Alley, and his initial embrace of Hedwig. Ron Weasley and Harry Potter form an instant friendship. Professor Snape is mysterious and hateful. This film sets the bar. Again, this film is my favorite of the entire series.

  33. AMAZING adaption to the book! Great acting, amazing plot and a timeless classic! The double disc version is even better. You get to watch deleted scenes, play games, tour Hogwarts, Hagrid’s hut and catch a snitch. You also get to choose your wand at Olivander’s.

    What I really love about this adaption is how Chris Columbus really captures it, its like the book really brought to life. Also, BEAUTIFUL DVD case. Opens like a book.

  48. We own the entire series and had this in VHS. We had to have it to match out the set in DVD’s. Awesome to watch these kids grow from the beginning to the end.

  50. The film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is a wonderful and faithful to the book as well as to it’s main audience of young readers. Director/Producer Chris Columbus worked deftly with his young stars and acting veterans to bring J.K. Rowlings’ Hogwarts to life as young Harry Potter discovers his place in the wizarding world.

    While the film is faithful to the book, this a determent as well. The attempt to replicate as much as possible the well loved book to cater to the film’s young audience, drags down the overall product as many favorite scenes that could have been skipped or shortened were in the film whole. The decision to cater to the millions of young readers is understandable, however it created several instances of plot dragging which is very noticeable on film than on a page.

    The acting is very good and natural for main of the young actors, many of whom were doing their first acting jobs in this film. The veteran actors on the cast did a superb job in their characters–whether teachers, relatives, or other adults–which provided the world Rowlings created with an air of realism and not the sense that they were doing the film for a paycheck.

    Overall, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is a wonderful film that this faithful to the book for both good and ill. It is a fantastic first installment of the Potter film franchise that any new young reader of the Potter books would greatly enjoy.
