A thought-provoking book which discusses the problem of violence and makes one wonder where God is in this disturbed world, while deepening one’s faith with the realisation that God is very present in all the horror. As always, Philip .yancey leaves one feeling baffled but reassured of His supporting arm.

A great book for Christians and unbelievers alike. We used it for our new book club selection. I recommend it highly

Where exactly is God when life hurts? Philip Yancey addressed that question in the prequel to this new book (The Question that never goes away – WHY).

First off let me state this updated text is hardback and the printing format is different. Let me say, that the book is very readable and is in traditional paragraph format. But the hardback cover and binding of the book is non-traditional. The book is more rectangular than square and is sort of long and narrow. Not bad, just different.

As for the book, Yancey is a reader’s writer. He uses everyday examples and terminology to help the everyday reader understand more about the mysteries of our Creator. As you read this book, you’ll find yourself encouraged and better equipped to trust God and continually seek Him, no matter that your circumstances may be.

We all ask WHY and this is the main reason behind Yancey’s writing of this text. This text is updated, relevant and the examples used for asking WHY are current and are brought back to life because of the affect each situation had on the world around us.

If you’re wondering more & more about God’s nature and character in the middle of your personal storms or the storms around you – please consider Philip Yancey as a go-to resource.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Yancey’s follow-up to his 20-year-old classic on suffering, "Where is God When it Hurts?" looks at the major traumatic events of the last few years. From the inconceivable shootings in Newtown to war in Bosnia to cataclysmic tsunamis in Japan, Yancey’s seen up close what most of us have only experienced through our TV screens. As last year’s news becomes but a faint memory for a majority of us, Yancey reminds us that there are still people enduring suffering for the evil that descended upon them.

His careful exploration of singular pain and suffering offers great insight to a question that will never be answered this side of heaven. "The Question That Never Goes Away," like many of Yancey’s works, are replete with quotes from other respected authors and theologians who will make you pause and consider one of the most challenging aspects of being a human in a broken world.

This book does not answer the question "Why?" but it will definitely help anyone struggling with that question to know the Who behind the universe, the one who also knows suffering at a deep, deep level.
