\\”Freeze Frame: A Wildlife Cameraman’s Adventures on Ice\\” is a wonderful \\”tour\\” of places most people will never get to see, the Antarctic, Arctic, and remote mountains. It’s difficult to describe a book’s images in words but suffice to say, they are uniformly striking and vivid and capture the essence of the time and place they are in. My favorites are a sequence that show a pair of killer whales stalking a seal on a slab of ice and generating a wave to wash their unlucky prey off its sanctuary to be eaten (the actual \\”kill\\” is not shown).
\\”Free Frame\\” is not just a series of photos and short captions. Very often, the author gives a short essay about how he came to take a particular photo in question that provides the reader with added insights.
Finally, as a very avid photographer myself who is going to Antarctica in just a week’s time, I greatly appreciated the listing at the end of the book where the author specified the camera, lens type, ISO, and aperture setting used in each shot. This helped me decide what sort of what equipment I need to bring with me.
