I followed this method to a T, trying for a boy, but we’re now expecting girl #2. I had tracked my cycle many months, from October to March, and was very familiar with the timing of my ovulation. It’s hard to speak to the effectiveness of this method as it will work for 50% no matter what, but it did not work for us. If you try it, just do it for fun and be prepared that you could still get either gender.

I have purchased several of these books because they were recommended to me by young couples with either two boys or two girls. Each one had the third baby in the sex they desired. Some followed it very closely, to the "T" and others just loosely followed it and still got the desired results. I know personally at least three different couples who this happened to. My niece just announced she is having a third girl! I was actually late getting her the book. I didn’t realize she wanted a boy each and every time! Maybe she will go for a fourth child. She and her husband wanted six at first but cut back to just four. Thank-you for this wonderful book! Kimberly Flora – Dayton, Ohio

Great book- great information – does not work for everyone. I am happy to have my third baby boy.. But wanted to share my information for others. I bded 4 days before ovulation. Timing was perfect for a girl. And at least four days every day prior to that. Based on my chart it is possible I ovulated a day earlier, which would have been 3 days (but fertility friend said four days) baby also measures a day or two big at first ultrasound. I was shocked I was pregnant with that chart. And just found out a sweet baby boy 🙂

I was aware of the shettles method but learned things about him I hadn’t heard before. I haven’t tried the method yet, but his credentials are impressive so it makes me think the science is legit.

My husband and I have 3 healthy boys but after 3 I deeply wanted a girl. Someone recommended this book to me and I read it in one night. After reading the boy section it made perfect sense on why we easily conceived our boys, all were on ovulation (plus other details the book goes in to). We just found out we are expecting our 4th in January. It took us 2 months on trying the girl way. I strictly used ovulation strips 3 mths prior to conceiving to figure out when ovulation was for sure taking place and continued using them the months of conceiving. We stopped 3 days before ovulation occurred (I know this thankfully due to the strips). Our gender u/s is in August but I will update 🙂 **Update** It took longer than I thought because we unfortunately had a miscarriage. However I am now 16 wks along and we just found out 99.9% we are having a GIRL!!! I highly recommend this book 😉 we stopped trying to conceive 4 days away from when ovulation occurred this time. Buy this book!

The book itself is good, but I was looking for more in-depth information that I couldn’t find on google. There wasn’t one thing that i read that I hadn’t already found out from my online research. Save yourself some money, and Google it.

We had our DNA test results couple days ago and it worked. We have the gender we wanted. We increased our chances by trying this method but we knew that we had a small percentage to also conceive the other gender. I recommend this book. If you are planing to get pregnant soon start reading ahead of time. You need to learn how your body works and for at least 3 consecutive months you need to chart your CM and body temperature. In the 4th month you can start trying.

The book worked for us! We already have a son and my husband and I really longed for a little girl to complete our family. There are all boys on my side of the family and 8 boys on my husband’s side of the family. It is definitely a commitment and takes careful planning. Scientifically the Shettles Method does make sense, as well. It’s worth a try!

Worked for us. We already have a girl and were trying for a boy. Found this book while searching in google and read the book several times for almost 2.5 years before attempting. As suggested in this book we also used clear blue digital OPK(bit expensive but worked perfectly) and BBT tracking. Definitely recommend to my friends. My wife was desperate to try this after 4 continuos girls in her family side. Apart from suggesting sure shot ways to get the baby of your choice sex I also learned a lot about baby making process and concepts like ovulation which I have no idea before as I am
from engineering background. Overall very good book. I would like to thank the authors for this wonderful book.

Worked for us!!! My husband and I have two boys – 5 and 3 and very much wanted a girl. A friend told me about this book a few years ago and I read through it a few times. I got pregnant right away with both my boys but the third time (this time) took me a lot longer. It took us 5 cycles to get pregnant. At first we were doing two days prior to ovulation (I was using ovulation predictor sticks – the ones that give you 2 days of high fertility followed by 2 days of peak ovulation) but I wasn’t getting pregnant so we moved it to one day before ovulation. And voila – that did the trick. I’m 22 weeks right now with our sweet baby girl. We were both convinced it was another boy and we were excited to be parents of three adorable boys. At the ultrasound the technician started looking and immediately I saw it was a girl and exclaimed "is it a girl, is it a girl, it looks like a girl???! I just about fell off the table! We were both amazed and thrilled to death to be having a girl. We can’t wait to meet this baby girl in March! Good luck!

This book is great and the Shettles method works, I already had two girls and my husban another girl from a previous marrige and we used this method to have a boy. Using it to the T I can say that I am the proud mommy of a healthy 2 month old boy.

I was expecting a book that would give me all the details on how to choose a sex of my next baby but i found this book useless because it goes on and on about history of sex selection. I had to skim through the parts that were more significant to me and all that information i already read online.

If you have time read the book as it goes in depth about studies and history of sex selection. I wanted some more information on the actual process and HOW!!! This book was not for me and so i would not recommend it. Instead, go online and you will find as much info.

Understand that this book does not guarantee results. Nowhere do the authors claim that their technique does anything more than tilt the odds in your favor.

When I ordered this book I had no idea of its contents. I had some Fuzzy memory of hearing about manipulating semen outside your bodies and one sex swimming to the top and you skim that off and something with a turkey baster… I thought maybe that was what this book would tell me. I wouldn’t have liked that at all.

Thankfully it is nothing like that. It is mainly about timing, nothing really artificial or unnatural or awkward.

My wife is a bit scatterbrained, so I felt the mucus observation which the book recommends was beyond her abilities to do consistently. Any temperature charting probably more so. So we relied entirely on ovulation test strips, which apparently have come down in price since the book was written. But then those did not give really clear-cut results for my wife either. Finally we just made our best guess about the timing, and followed the book’s other tips as best as we could. After about 4 months of trying, we got a bite… and the newfangled blood test they have now says it is the boy that we’d hoped for! I am 50 years old and the youngest son of an only son and my brothers never married or had children and one of my sisters too, and my other sister had 4 girls, and my wife is 39 and our first child a girl so this was pretty much the last gasp for my family to have any male descendants.

I can’t say 100% it was the book, but I certainly feel satisfied.

The Shettles method does not work. I read the book over many times, charted my cycle for 6 months. 4 moths we tried 4 days before Ovulation the next month we tried 5 days before ovulation and finally conceived our 3rd boy. I also did the acidic diet along with cranberry pills in trying to conceive a girl. Even tho I wanted some pink, I think God gives you what you need in your life.

Found this at a Goodwill in AZ after borrowing it from the library twice. You can’t read everything you need to know in 3 weeks. I read this book 6 times over, making sure I did everything he said. My husband and I already have 2 boys and wanted desperately to have a baby girl. So it was important for me to read the parts on how to conceive a girl, but like it said in the book, read both sections so you know what NOT to do. I read it over and over for 6 months while planning for 6 months, using the bbt method only. I pinpointed ovulation for 6 months straight and we tried the first month but were unsuccessful but the second month we were pregnant and we just found out we are expecting our princess this December and we are so excited. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is wanting to conceive a specific gender.

I learned about this book after I was pregnant with my THIRD boy. I love my boys to pieces but wanted to try for a girl. This book was well-written and an easy read. (I read it in one day.) After reading the chapter on how to conceive a boy, it made perfect sense why we have three boys! (I thought my husband must just have a large amount of male sperm, but the book showed me it was all about our methods.) I love that the book doesn’t ask anything silly or unrealistic of the reader (ex: eat this, not that). I was already using Fertilityfriend.com to track my cycles, so adding in the knowledge learned from reading Shettles’ book was easy to do. After just one month of trying, we are expecting our GIRL this October! We couldn’t be more thrilled. I’m a huge advocate for this book to anyone that has a gender preference. Of course, as the book says, don’t try these methods unless you’re OK ending up with the other gender. A baby is a blessing either way! Best of luck to you! XO~

I’m very familiar with Shettles and gender selection, also very well versed in charting and monitoring my cycle. We used this for our 3rd hoping for a girl (after 2 boys). This book essentially gives you the best "timing" for trying for either gender, but the timing needs to be spot on for the method to work. Only way to guarantee the "right" timing is to know when you’re ovulating which means you better know your cycle inside and out before attempting. We used this book and the timing methods along with some other methods incorporating diet and supplements, used the iBasal thermometer along with FertilityFriend.com chart analyzer, and also used daily (and twice daily) ovulation kits to help sway our odds. I didn’t anticipate the 4 LH surges in a single month when we finally were trying and therefore the timing was impossible to predict. So long story short, we gave it our all and our 3rd boy is on the way 🙂

Bottom line, nothing’s guaranteed, give it a shot but be realistic. And to have the best odds make sure you stack the deck and know your cycle in and out, chart it regularly for at least a few months prior to timing.

Yes you can read the short of it online, but I believe having the book and reading the whole method to fully educate yourself is worth it’s weight in gold. Of course, we conceived the gender we tried for, so I’m a believer in the Shettles method 😉

Read this book before trying to conceive, we tried for a boy and we are expecting a baby boy on June. People will say what they want but it doesn’t hurt to try it. Whether it was the tips from the book or a coincidence we will never know but it doesn’t really make a difference.

We already had a son, so our goal, was to have a daughter. We carefully followed the Shettles method. Our daughter was born in the winter of 2000. Since then, we have recommended this book to many people. It’s an easy to read book that is straight forward. It’s about 12,000 dollars cheaper than IVF, and much more romantic. Don’t worry… It’s easy. Try it!

I have a little boy who is 3 1/2 and we were trying for our 2nd, I wanted so badly a little girl! I would have been happy with either, another little boy would have been such an amazing addition and my son would have a brother to play with. I followed all the directions and I am now 37 weeks pregnant with my little girl! So grateful. I was well aware that this isn’t 100% effective, the book clearly states that, but an increased chance was good enough for me.

ALL babies are such a gift, no matter what the sex is. Please know going into this that while you have an increased chance of having the gender you are hoping for, you could fit into the percentage of having the other gender, so it’s important to go into this experience knowing that!
