IT was the sketch show that spawned a thousand catchphrases, from “Suits you, sir” to “No offence!”. The cast of The Fast Show have reunited to celebrate its 26th anniversary, with a new two-parter which includes interviews and new sketches featuring favourite characters as talking heads, looking back on the original show. We talk to Fast Show stalwarts Charlie Higson, Paul Whitehouse, John Thomson, Arabella Weir, Simon Day and Mark Williams. WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE THE FAST SHOW? Higson: Paul and I were friends with Harry Enfield and Vic Reeves and while we were in the decorating world, we fell into comedy and did some writing for their shows. Day: I was doing gardening and labouring, then I started stand-up. I had problems with addiction and fruit machines so I spent a lot of time in pubs with ne’er-do-wells but I found them fascinating. I didn’t know why I was watching these people but it turned out perfect because it all fed what I ended up doing.
