Cristiano Ronaldo suffers injury for Portugal

Juventus face a nervous wait over the extent over Cristiano Ronaldo’s fitness as the Portugal captain suffered a hamstring injury against Serbia. Ronaldo started Portugal’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Serbia in Lisbon on Monday night, but was forced off after just half an hour after pulling up injured in Serbia’s half. Ronaldo was hurt while sprinting to try to reach a long pass in the 30th minute, pulling back immediately after feeling the injury, limping towards the sideline, and signalling to the bench to request a substitution. He sat by the sidelines and removed the captain’s armband before doctors arrived and treated his right thigh. Ronaldo, who had already been treated for a bleeding nose earlier in the match, walked back to the bench on his own after being replaced by Pizzi Fernandes. Ronaldo’s injury will come as an unwelcome setback to Juventus, who face Ajax in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on April 10.
