Donald Trump prepared for US shutdown to last ‘for years’

President Donald Trump has said he is prepared for the partial shutdown of the US government to go on “for years” over his demand for a border wall.  The government is in its 14th day of a partial government shutdown over the US President’s insistence for funding of his proposed wall at the US-Mexico border. Mr Trump also said he has considered using executive authority to get a wall built on the southern border, telling reports he could officially declare a national emergency. However, he said he wants to try to negotiate a border wall with Congress.  “I can do it if I want,” Mr Trump said. “We can call a national emergency. I may do it.” The President continued on to suggest he thinks the stand-off over the border wall, which has resulted in a partial government shutdown, is going to be over sooner than people think. Mr Trump has said he will not sign any bill without wall funding, something opposed by the Democrats.
