The Wholehearted Life by Susyn Reeve is a mighty and accessible resource full of practical tips we can use to help us achieve a wholehearted life. And yes, I’m going to say the obvious; I recommend it wholeheartedly.
At over 340 pages this is a chunky book. Size isn’t everything but The Wholehearted Life feels and looks professional, and inspires confidence in Susyn in that she’s put thought and effort into creating it and not holding back for the sequel.
It’s well written and in such a way that it can be read as a reference book and/or used as a resource; not just read from cover to cover and then forgotten about after turning the last page.
Naturally there are some tips which won’t suit me, and there’ll probably be some which won’t suit you either. But the point is you can’t please all of the people all of the time. But with 52 suggestions the chances are good that something will work!
This is a huge positive aspect – that there’s space to pick and choose what you want and when you want it!
I think my only negative point is that there is some repetition – tips are often reused in different sections, but even in these cases they’re presented with slightly differing angles so I suppose I can see the author’s side!
I haven’t owned this book for a year yet so I guess this review is counting a lot on extrapolation, but from what I’ve read and applied so far I think it’s brilliant!
I’m smiling as I write this review, since I’m the author! I just listened to the audible version of the book and I was inspired by hearing the words aloud. It’s a very different experience than both writing the words or simply reading them. Hearing them has added a depth of understanding that doesn’t take the place, for me, when reading the written words. I became aware that there are times that the written word is most powerful, for instance: to easily read a particular sentence over and over again, write a note to myself, or turn down the corner of a page (or its’ electronic equivalent). One doesn’t replace the other – rather in combination the message is even more powerful!
The Table of Contents, alone, provides a set of inspiring prompts to invite change or deepen an already excellent practice. People who live a wholehearted life generally do so without writing their processes down – they live them and model them for others. Susyn Reeve has provided a real service here by compiling authentic, tried practices that generate wellness, happiness, contentment, deeper joy and a sense of success and ease. It’s a textbook for living fully with ever expanding capacity. This book can be used over the year, as it is presented or with "intentional randomness." Any way a reader uses this volume will underscore and highlight the best practices of your life and lay down paths to more rewarding ways of thinking and being that you, perhaps, have yet to discover.
All you need to do to start is begin on page 1. Some things are simple, this book is easy and practical. One week at a time guidance to bring forth more happiness and peace that isn’t overwhelming and cumbersome. Susyn Reeve gets that time is of the essence and to manage your time better, without coming right out and stating so, incorporating these ideas and exercises into your life is just what you need to give you back what you lost or feel is missing. No spoiler alerts here, just get the book and begin. It’s that easy. The results, well, they’re phenomenal!
We need more whole-hearted living and Susyn helps us get there!
Susyn Reeve’s book, The Wholehearted Life , speaks directly to the spiritual seeker who desires both a more serene and a more dynamic relationship to one’s self, one’s loved ones, and one’s world. The clarity of language, easy to follow activities, poetic nuances, inspirational quotes, and personal stories, quickly drew me in. Susyn’s warm voice, thoughtful guidance, and powerful content kept me engaged.
Open the book to any page and begin reading, and you, too, will likely find yourself, as I did, reflecting on the nuggets planted in prose that flows gracefully, involved with suggested activities that are easy to do, and ultimately, breathing more easily. Leave The Wholehearted Life in a prominent place in your home as I did, and you, too, will also likely find yourself visiting Susyn’s offerings daily. The activities can fit into even the busiest of lives, yet they offer insights that empower and inspire.
If you continue to engage with the activities in Susyn’s book, you may discover that you’re feeling more peaceful and more aligned with your body, heart, mind, and spirit. You may notice that relationships hold less stress and tension and are easy, more supportive, and loving. You may find yourself more excited about and actively and positively involved with creating a better world. The book holds a treasure trove of possibilities.
The Wholehearted Life is a gem of a book, written with a softness and gentleness that is an offering from a joyful soul who has dedicated her life to making the world a better place.
I read Susyn’s book The Inspired Life and was so impressed that when i got news this new book was out, I had to check it out. Wise woman with such a heart! Great info and crisp writing!
Susyn Reeve’s book is filled with ideas on how to recharge your life, 365 of them as a matter of fact. I am finding that this book is a treasure chest of riches and that Reeve is coming from a place of deep wisdom. One of her suggestions "Write Your Own Obituary" is very bold and I think this is excellent to make you REALLY think about your life, who you really are and what you want to do with the rest of your time.
I recommend this book VERY highly!
Transitions in life are scary! Mine made me anxious, teary, and probably not much fun to be around (not qualities potential employers are looking for!). I found Susyn’s book and, after only a few weeks, I feel like a different person: sunnier, friendlier, and full of hope. Her straightforward, day-by-day advice for seeing the future as a wealth of possibilities, myself as a person capable of happiness and success, and others as the willing partners in my move has really changed my perspective. Change…not so scary after all, if Susyn Reeve is your guide. Thank you, Susyn!
I love this book, because I have experienced the power and impact of being mindful and intentional about what we want. This book is great in that it gives me a focus point to start my days. When I do that, I am much happier, calmer, and enjoy each moment much more. Thanks for giving us these opportunity Susyn
Just like a sports team has a playbook to win a game The Wholehearted Life is a guide for us to live happy full vibrant lives! Highly suggest you pick up a copy or buy as a gift for yourself or a friend searching for simple to apply ideas for expanding joy, love and meaning to our lives. You are worth this modest investment by a best-selling author…
I bought this book because I had read author Susyn Reeve;s "The Inspired Life" and it really helped me on a profound level. I wondered if she could match in this new book, the level of spiritual brilliance and insight. I am thrilled to say the answer is YES! "The Wholehearted Life" is 365 days and 365 ways to live your truth and grow as a person. I LOVE this book. It is helping me to live a life of passion and purpose. I know Reeve apprenticed with Don Miguel Ruiz who wriote "The Four Agreements" I think Ruix can now apprentice with Susyn Reeve.
This is one of the best ever "change your life books." Read it and get inspired!
This book arrived right when I needed it! These days I just don’t have the time to read, so what I love about this book is that the chapters are short, easy to digest and I can implement the exercises, activities and lessons whenever I want. I would suggest this book to anyone looking for a fun read with great soul and lots of love and care. The exercises are easy, but thoughtful and have been incredibly helpful to me on my road to happiness. I greatly appreciate Susyn Reeve’s honesty and openness with her own life experiences, which were a huge inspiration! Thank you.
It was an honor to be asked to write the foreword for this book. I began with the title. When I turned inside and asked myself just what IS a wholehearted life, the answer seemed almost too simple: When I live a wholehearted life, all of me shows up, all my emotions, all my experiences, all my knowing and all my doubt. All of me. But what would happen if I did that? Life would be quite different. It would be richer and easier because there’d be no more hiding, no more compartmentalizing. No more showing up one way at work and another at home. So that leaves only one question: How do we live a wholehearted life? That’s the gift of this book. In tiny daily increments, Susyn Reeve takes us by the hand and gently teaches 52 practices, one each week. As the year progresses, you find yourself building an incredible spiritual toolkit. And then you realize, Oh! I actually am showing up in a new way. And life is sweeter.
This book is an inspiration. From hearing this author speak I already knew that she has a way of talking directly to our best Self. But this book is more than wisdom. It might be the least expensive workshop or retreat you could ever attend. That it’s written to be read, savored, and applied over a year is ideal for me. I’ve just started to use it this way – and have already marked some sections later in the book that I’m looking forward to. (Plus I love that it includes instructions if I wanted to use the book as part of a book group or mastermind.) In sheer richness of wisdom, the Wholehearted Life reminds me of Mark Nepo’s The Book of Awakening – yet with guidance and suggestions for taking that inspiration out into my life this year.
I love this book. It is packed with such wisdom and written in a way which is very simple to understand wherever you are on your spiritual journey. Having a guide to give you different ideas to try really does give a structure that keeps you on track. Its been a wonderful gift for both my young adult children as they have enjoyed reading snippets here and there, as well as following the overall program.
I love this book so much. I’ve read so many "self help" books and they were very helpful. But, this book gave me a daily practice which I’ve found to be the most important thing that’s lead to the changes I desired in my life. Susyn’s writing is clear and practical, I can really understand ideas that I’ve wasn’t able to grasp before.
I love that every week there is a new idea to explore and that each day has a simple and easy to do practice. It’s more of a workbook than a book book. I often have a short attention span, so having short segments to focus on has been beyond helpful.
Thank you Susyn for this book! It has truly lifted me up and changed my life!
This book is an answer to my prayers. I’ve been wanting something to do everyday to get out of my head and into my heart. To take action to feel better and happier. This book has been the perfect tool.
I love that I can open it to any, random page when I need a boost. I always find the perfect advice and encouragement. It’s like Susyn is in my head, knowing exactly what I need to hear at the perfect time.
This book really helped me boost my self esteem and find greater happiness.
This book is great. It is filled with ideas and simple practices that will keep you in touch with feelings of peace, gratitude, appreciation and joy. I read a little everyday when I wake up and it helps keep me grounded. A good way to start the day. I highly recommend it.
