My son and his friends have really enjoyed Penelope’s Secret Cooking Club as the characters bring their imaginations to life. The characters are adorable and fun… and as a mom, I appreciate that the characters aren’t bratty or snarky. It’s hard to find a good book series these days like that.

Penelope’s Secret Cooking Club, Vol.One, IS THERE A SECRET TO KEEP? bubbles over with inventive \\”helpers\\” and kid friendly fun. Penelope mopes around after school because none of her friends may play, but oh, does she end up with multiple surprises when she ventures into her mom’s spotless kitchen. Penelope’s friends appear from surprising sources. The story is well written and shows kids they can conquer something new and still manage to clean up the mess before Mom gets home from work. Author Robin Hutchinson engages the reader with lively language and a kid-friendly voice. Illustrator Kari R. Clark enlivens the story with appealing artwork. Kids will love this new series.

IS THERE A SECRET TO KEEP? bubbles over with fun when PENELOPE’S SECRET COOKING CLUB takes over her mom’s spotless kitchen one afternoon. The surprises Penelope encounters when her \\”new friends\\” show up in her kitchen to help relieve boredom, keep the reader guessing as to which dish could possibly turn out worse. The sticky, fun mess with a resulting yummy pizza makes Penelope’s adventure in the kitchen quite an amusing read. But will they be able to clean up the huge mess? Phew! Kid friendly recipes wrap up this story for kids ages 6-10. This fun first volume in author Robin Hutchinson’s PENELOPE’S SECRET COOKING CLUB makes the reader’s mouth water for more. I hear Penelope and Robin are cooking up their 2nd and 3rd stories in the series.

Penelope’s Secret Cooking Club is funny, clever, and loaded with wonderful illustrations which add to the charm of the book. You wonder what Penelope is going to do next and how is she going to get out of the jams she gets herself into. Go with your imagination when you meet the other members of the Cooking Club! Oui, oui, monsieur! This is a great read for kids about 6-10 years old, probably more so for girls. For readers who like chapter books with excitement and humor from page to page, this book is perfect. This would be a fun book to read with Mom, too. I think we’ll all be looking forward to Hutchinson’s other books in the series! Ooh la la!
